BUMPER PUTTY

Plastic is a relatively challenging material to work with when it comes to interacting with other materials. When an automobile sustains mechanical damage to the doorsills or bumper, plastic filler must be purchased to eliminate cracks, chips, and irregularities before painting.

Plastic filler is a two-component, elastic product that can be easily applied with a spatula. It interacts well with most types of plastic products (with the exception of Teflon and polyethylene), wood, natural stone, aluminum, steel, concrete, old paint, or lacquer. It is not recommended for use on thermoplastics, Wash Prime series products, nitrocellulose, or acrylic surfaces made of a single component.

Polyester resin with pigment and filler is mixed with a hardener. A metal spatula is used in the process to scoop the mixture, and a rubber spatula is used for the actual work.

The surface is cleaned, removing any greasy spots or accumulated dust. Application is recommended in a 1 mm layer (if a larger thickness is required, several layers should be applied). Otherwise, uneven hardening will occur, with a crust forming on the top and the material remaining semi-dry inside.

To 100 parts of plastic filler, 2-3 parts of hardener are added. The mixture’s activity time is no more than 8 minutes at an ambient temperature of +20˚C. Drying occurs in 30-45 minutes, and adding heat can speed up the process.

After drying, the surface is sanded twice in a circular motion, using a rough and a finishing version to bring it to readiness. A strong bond is formed that lasts for a long time. The treated surface is prepared for painting.
