Basic 1K automotive paints are one-component products that are ready to use. They are divided into two types: solids (monochrome mixtures without visually bright inclusions) and metallics (distinguished from other coatings by the presence of metallized, finely dispersed aluminum powder particles). If the solid forms an even matte shade, then the metallic is able to reflect light, giving the body coating a durable shine. The light-refracting effect masks small surface imperfections, which is helpful for personal use and when selling the vehicle. The third option is a pearl tone, which creates a shimmer similar to that of seashells.
The primary function of basic 1K automotive paint is to provide decorative qualities to the body. The paint is not atmospheric-stable, so it is used in conjunction with a clear, protective lacquer. It is suitable for use on bases that have been primed and pre-leveled.
Application is done with a paint gun. A 3-layer scheme is often chosen: the first couple of layers should completely cover the surface, and the third layer is necessary for adjusting the thickness of the application (it is done with a short, drip spray). It is necessary to choose the correct distance for painting: on average, it is equal to 20 cm. For example, if using a metallic basic enamel and distributing it over a body part from a distance of 10-15 cm, the strong pressure will place the aluminum powder particles more densely, resulting in a darker final finish color. A distance of 40 cm from the nozzle to the vehicle will lighten the final color.
